On September 4, 2026, surrounded by his family, Jonathan “Jon” David Holtaway of Vienna, Virginia, passed away peacefully after a life filled with adventure, love, family, friendship and an abiding curiosity about the world around him. He was 55 years old.

Jon was President of Ategra Capital Management, LLC, which he founded in 2005.

Throughout his career, Jon earned broad respect in the banking industry for his expertise in strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions and equity valuation. He was a frequent speaker at banking conferences and the author of The Growth Penalty: Unfinished Business, Banking and the American Recovery published in 2013.

He served as a member of Hawthorn Bank’s Board of Directors since 2019.

He passionately supported Leadership Mission International, a nonprofit organization developing women as leaders in Honduras. His relationship with LMI began in 2017, when he sponsored a student in the residential leadership program and funded a grant that enabled COVID-19 relief in rural Honduras.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, Jon earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and history.

While Jon’s professional accomplishments were significant, those of us who had the privilege of knowing him will remember him most for his humility, generosity, curiosity and genuine care for those around him.

Family was at the center of everything Jon did. He was a devoted husband and father to three children, and he gave generously of his time, energy, ideas and love.

Jon approached life with enthusiasm and an appetite for adventure. He loved to travel, play and watch tennis, gather people around a table, cook and share good wine, plan the next adventure. Most of all, he loved including as many people as possible in the experiences he enjoyed.

He was known for his wit, generosity, thoughtfulness and remarkable ability to make those around him feel valued and welcome.

Jon will forever remain in our hearts. We miss him deeply and will always be grateful for the life, friendship and love he shared with us all.
